May 12th, 2016

A talented field of fourteen runners has been confirmed for Saturday’s featured 2016 Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m) at Doomben Racecourse; offering punters exceptional value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.

Japonisme has continued to receive noticeable support in 2016 BTC Cup betting markets with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au, and has cut into outright favouritism at a quote of $4.

Japonisme has been a strong and consistent performer for Chris Waller in posting six wins and five minors through fourteen career starts, and could very well receive the run of the race in the BTC Cup from barrier 3.

Capping a strong 2015 campaign with success in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) on October 31st, the Choisir gelding resumed this time for third in the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m) before a tough run for fifth in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m).

Again unlucky to finish just off the pace in third in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) on March 24th, Japonisme will carry winning form into the BTC Cup after taking out the Group 2 Arrowfield Sprint (1200m) on Day 2 of The Championships.

Fell Swoop has interestingly drifted in 2016 BTC Cup betting markets this week but remains sole occupant of the second line at a quote of $4.40 for success.

Fell Swoop returned to racing this year for an agonizingly-close second in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) first-up, before running on for a credible fourth despite being blocked in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m).

Placing second behind Chautauqua in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) on Day 1 of The Championships, the Not A Single Doubt gelding displayed a keen affiliation with the Doomben racing surface with success in the Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) a fortnight ago.

Malaguerra failed to fire in his most recent start but should relish an arguable step back in class for the BTC Cup, and figures as outright $6 third favourite.

Posting nine wins and two minors through seventeen career starts so far, the Magnus gelding resumed this time for consecutive wins in the Listed Bob Hoysted Handicap (1000m) and Group 3 Kingdom Stakes (1200m), leading into his run for sixth in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) last time out.

Artlee ($8.50) and Counterattack ($9.50) interestingly figure as the only other runners currently available at BTC Cup odds of less-than $10.
