Ryan Confident in 2014 BTC Cup Upset for Hot Snitzel

May 7th, 2014

Trainer Gerald Ryan is confident in-form sprinter Hot Snitzel can overcome a widely talented field and register a maiden victory at the highest level of Australian racing in this weekend’s Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m) at Brisbane’s Doomben Racecourse, particularly if any form of inclement weather is experienced.

Strolling home to win the Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick last time out, Ryan told Racing Ahead he could not be happier with the condition of the gelding out of Flames Of Paris, and is confident of walking away from Doomben one Group 1 title richer.

“He has done very well the horse; all this preparation I reckon he has been going better than he has in many other times of his career” Ryan said.

“He worked really nicely at Rosehill here this morning.

“If the rain does come it will bring him right into it.

“His slow track form is very good, he has had five goes on slow tracks for four wins, and the way that the horse is going you have a crack at this race.

“The form around the horse is damn good and by the way that the race will be run up there and where he will be sitting, he is a good chance to perhaps score a bit of an upset.”

Securing an impressive total of six victories and eight places from 25 competitive race starts to date, Hot Snitzel has arguably returned to racing in career best form this preparation; finishing a close second to Flamberge in the Group 3 Sebring Stakes (1200m) prior to his most recent triumph.

Yet to claim a victory at Group 1 level, the Snitzel gelding is currently offered at particularly generous odds of $9.50 in betting markets for success in the 2014 BTC Cup and features as sole occupant of the fifth line of betting.

A three-time Group 1 winner over just four starts throughout the 2013 spring; Buffering is currently clear favourite to claim the 2014 BTC Cup at short $2.20 odds, ahead of Spirit Of Boom ($5), Temple Of Boom ($7.50) and fellow Gerald Ryan-trained runner Snitzerland ($8).
