A particularly talented field of eight has been confirmed to line up for this weekend’s featured Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m) at Brisbane’s Doomben Racecourse, and while far less-than capacity, is without doubt this weekend’s most exciting race.
Breaking through for maiden success at the highest level of Australian racing this season, trainer Gerald Ryan has accepted a place for Snitzerland in the final field for the 2014 BTC Cup.
Arguably one of the country’s most exciting and talented runners yet to claim a Group 1 title prior to her current preparation, Snitzerland was a standout performer in her maiden racing season; claiming victory in the Group 3 Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes (1200m) before finishing an unlucky second behind Pierro in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m).
Continuing to build in form and class when claiming several more impressive victories throughout the 2012 spring and 2013 racing calendar; Snitzerland returned to racing this season with an impressive first-up run to lead from start to finish and claim the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m) on February 15th.
Producing a strong turn of foot to finish second in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) on March 15th, the Snitzel mare was unable to handle the heavy going of the Group 1 T.J. Smith Stakes (1200m) on April 12th, but returned to impressive form when third behind fellow BTC Cup acceptors the Boom Brothers in the Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) last time out.
The standout stars of trainer Tony Gollan’s Eagle Farm stables, Spirit Of Boom and Temple Of Boom have seemingly received ideal preparation’s for the 2014 BTC Cup, for varying reasons.
Spirit Of Boom has arguably returned to the track in career best form this season; unlucky to finish second behind the world’s leading sprinter Lankan Rupee in both the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) and Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) before breaking through for a maiden Group 1 victory in the William Reid Stakes (1200m) on March 21st.
Producing a strong turn of foot in the final straight of the Victory Stakes last time out, the Sequalo entire was unable to match a spirited run from well-trialled stable mate Temple Of Boom; finishing second.
Champion of the 2012 edition of the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m), Temple Of Boom has continued on a steady path over three proceeding preparations, arguably returning to peak condition over his most recent campaign which has delivered both an impressive run for sixth in this year’s Galaxy and Victory Stakes triumph most notably.
Allocated the ideal inside barrier for the 2014 BTC Cup, Gollan is confident his two classy entrants have the mean to deliver further Group 1 success this weekend.
Queensland’s foremost short distance specialist, Buffering was a standout performer over the 2013 spring; finishing second in the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1200m) first-up before securing an impressive run of three back-to-back victories at Group 1 level in the Manikato Stakes (1200m), VRC Sprint Classic (1200m) and Winterbottom Stakes (1200m).
Allocated the ideal barrier 3 for the BTC Cup, trainer Robert Heathcote is hopeful inclement weather forecast for Brisbane this week will hold up enough to ensure a firm track to suit Buffering’s running style.
A Group 1 winner this season, Tiger Tees (barrier 2) has also been confirmed in the final field for the 2014 BTC Cup, and will be joined by Hot Snitzel (barrier 8), Famous Seamus (barrier 4) and Peron (barrier 5).
