Sydney jockey Nash Rawiller has picked up the ride aboard Buffering in the Group 1 BTC Cup at Doomben Racecourse on May 12, 2012.
Buffering won his most recent start at Eagle Farm on Wednesday in the $100,000 Cocoa Cola Amatil Weight For Age Handicap.
The race was a replacement for the Group 2 Victory Stakes, which was washed out last Saturday.
Buffering has now won nine of his 24 race starts and has earned more than $1.3 million in prize money during his career.
Trainer Robert Heathcote feels that Buffering is deserving of his current favouritism for the 2012 BTC Cup, for which is paying odds of $2.50 at bookmaker.com.au.
“He’s been racing against the best two sprinters in the world in Black Caviar and Hay List and he put them to the sword today,” Heathcote said after Buffering’s most recent race win.
“He deserves to be favourite for the BTC Cup and he’ll probably have a few more points shaved off him after today’s win.”
Buffering will be chasing his first Group 1 in the 2012 BTC Cup after finishing second to Black Caviar and Hay List on numerous occasions in the past.
Buffering placed in all three of his autumn carnival races, with his best result being in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap, where he finished second to Hay List by a nostril.
The four-year-old will then likely go on to run in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 on May 26, 2012, and the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap on June 9, 2012.
