BTC Cup History

The history of the legendary BTC Cup is quite rich, however many Aussies are still unfamiliar with its humble beginnings. As all gamblers know, before going ahead and placing wagers online, it’s important to understand the history of the event. First run in 1964, the race was started off small like most races and quickly gained exposure after the first race was won by well-known Rashlore. From 1983 to 1990 the race was actually run over a distance of 1350 metres before moving back to the traditional 1200 metres that most race fans and riders prefer.

Most horse racing enthusiasts are well aware that the race was Group 2 until 2006. However not many Aussies know that the race was actually known as the Robin’s Kitchen Cup until 1995. In fact, over the years the race actually had many different names including the Foster’s Cup from 1995-1998, the Carlton Cup from 1999-2001, and the Wyndham Estate Cup in 2002 and 2003.

One of the historic facts that surround the race revolves around the fan favourite Thorn Park who in 2004 became the only thoroughbred in 20 years to win, within the same year, the famed BTC Cup-Stradbroke Handicap double. Its incredible record setting memories like these that make the BTC Cup one of the most watched and wagered on races by so many Australians. Nowadays, with all of the incredible opportunities to place wagers online, more and more Aussies are walking away winners and getting their chance to win big. The Melbourne Cup is Australia’s richest horse racing event and holds a global renown for also being quite prestigious. Punters all over the world place bets for it online each year. This year, the Melbourne Cup 2016’s prize money reaches a total of $6.2 million. However that was not the only great record surrounding the BTC Cup. For example, only three horses including Broad Reach (1987) Barrosa Boy (1992) and Accomplice (1997) were the only horses in more than two decades to win, within the same year, the BTC Cup-Doomben 10,000 double.

Champion sprinter Black Caviar won her thirteenth race in a row in the 2011 BTC Cup.

BTC Cup Betting

These days the online world is just a fact of life and for that reason it’s no big surprise that the horse racing industry including placing wagers is now provided through incredibly convenient and easy to use services online. Unfortunately many Aussies will not be able to attend the BTC Cup and cheer their favourite thoroughbred on, however that will definitely not stop them from being able to place wagers and walk away a winner. With the online integration that has happened within the industry, there are an absolute incredible number of sportsbooks and online betting venues providing incredibly innovative and superior services compared to the average physical sportsbook or window at the track. Freebets.com.au has a number of free bet offers from Australia’s best bookies, so check them out here.

The fact of the matter is many Aussies have been utilising online resources in order to get informed about races such as the BTC Cup and use them to their advantage when placing wagers. It’s important for Aussies to know that the odds may be better placing your wagers with a sportsbook outside of Australia. The online atmosphere opens up a world of opportunities for placing educated wagers on the BTC Cup and for that reason there has been an incredible number of Aussies that now prefer placing wagers online as opposed to actually attending the race. There are many that prefer the ability to place wagers on many events and stay up to date with the progress, results, and wagers all from their computer like the Melbourne Cup. Perhaps the Australians that benefit from online services the most are the ones that are travelling abroad or on vacation and not able to place their wagers through the track. This will allow them to not miss out on the big race and still place a wager on their favourite thoroughbred.
